What’s in a Name? Feeding America

Feeding America replaces the name America’s Second Harvest this year. As the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, Feeding America recognizes there has never been a more important time to engage the public in the issue of hunger. After 30 years, the national name, America’s Second Harvest—The Nation’s Food Bank Network, was still relatively unknown. In order to impact public engagement on hunger and help feed hungry people, research was conducted for a name that clearly and quickly explains its mission and invites people to join the anti-hunger movement. Given that, the new name, Feeding America, was tested and chosen.

Feeding America provides low-income individuals and families with the fuel to survive and thrive. Network members supply food to more than 25 million Americans each year, including 9 million children and 3 million seniors. Serving the entire United States, more than 200 member food banks that address hunger in all of its forms. The Food Bank for Monterey County is a certified Feeding America member food bank.
